The Water Street Medical/Dental Clinic

For someone with health insurance, finding access to and paying for appointments for a child’s fever that just won’t go away or your own toothache isn’t a big deal.

For someone without insurance, however, it may seem easier to ignore health problems than treat them, considering the plight of finding access to care, and the threat of unaffordable medical or dental bills.

Millions of people in America don’t have health insurance -- including approximately 55,000 people in Lancaster County alone – sometimes due to job loss, low income or employment at a company that does not offer health coverage.

At The Water Street Medical/Dental Clinic, we spread the love of Christ by providing access to proper health services to the homeless and formerly homeless uninsured at no cost. In February 2008, we expanded our services to care for others without insurance who fall within specific guidelines. All care is made possible through donors and health professionals who volunteer their time.

We offer services like:

To meet the growing need of the uninsured in Lancaster, we renovated our facilities in 2006, tripling them in size. As of January 2007, we have been operating from the new facilities.

Because doctors, nurses, dentists, hygienists, registrars, pharmacists, etc. volunteer their time, the Medical/Dental Clinic provides nearly 6,000 free patient visits each year!

The Clinic operates efficiently, with the average patient visit costing just $42! But…$42 is still $42. We need your help to continue caring for the uninsured of Lancaster County!

The Water Street Medical/Dental Clinic is a subsidiary of Water Street Rescue Mission. All funding is provided by private donations.

Medical/Dental Eligibility Requirements:

Because the need is great, individuals must meet at least one of the requirements below to receive care*:

• Homeless and uninsured (living on the streets)
• Referral by homeless shelter or other organization working with the homeless uninsured
• Referral from Project Access Lancaster County (PALCO) for medical needs
• Former clients of homeless shelters with no insurance and limited financial means
• Individuals who fall below 200% of the current federal poverty level (single person in 2008: $20,800; family of 4 in 2008: $42,400).
• Uninsured individuals without access to health coverage through other resources, such as Medicaid, Medicare, veterans benefits, etc.

*Patients must also complete Clinic Application and provide proof of need

With only a few paid staff, the volunteers are the life blood of the Water Street Medical/Dental Clinic. If you have a heart to serve, we have an opportunity for you!
